Fred became a Team Rubicon Volunteer in 2017 and participated in many training opportunities over the years. The most recent training was an in-person 2-day training in Chainsaw Operations learning Team Rubicon standards and procedures, and chainsaw operation/maintenance following the Team Rubicon standards. One of the Team Rubicon operations participated in was a deployment in December 2021 to Whatcom County, Washington in response to the 2021 floods in Everson and Sumas.
WHAT IS TEAM RUBICON? Team Rubicon is a veteran-led disaster response organization.
WHAT IS TEAM RUBICON’S MISSION? Team Rubicon serves communities by mobilizing veterans to continue their service, leveraging their skills and experience to help people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises. This mission serves a dual purpose. Our volunteer members are military veterans, first responders, and skilled individuals who assist communities after disasters by helping their residents recover. For the veteran volunteers, service provides a sense of purpose, community, and identity, which is often lost after hanging up their uniform.
WHEN WAS TEAM RUBICON FORMED? Following the earthquake in 2010, two marines led a small team of veterans, medical professionals and a Jesuit priest to respond to the devastation in Haiti. Based on the belief that veterans are uniquely built to respond in austere environments, the organization has grown from eight members to over 150,000 volunteers. The organization has launched over 900 operations across the United States and world since inception.
